    i don't believe the story from israel. mid air collision, tumble, spin and he was conscious enough and had enough faculties to react by hitting the throttle assuming there was no damage to any of the 10,000 pieces in the engines, pumps or electronic. nevermind the fly by wire systems, or the fuel in the tanks that are in both wings. most air collisions end in deaths especially with jet powered aircraft. 600 mph impact is very dangerous. So i call bullshit on the israel airforce story.

    The purpose of the F-15 was NOT unique. The P-51, P-47, F-86, F-102., F-106, F-4, F-14, F-8 to name a few were all initially built as High Altitude escorts or intercept missions with no intentions of them ever Dropping Bombs. Like the F-15E, all those I mentioned were eventually "adapted" to dropping bombs or be recce birds. He's wrong again. In fact the F-4 was NOT built as a multi roll aircraft, it was built as a high altitude missile toting fleet defense fighter for the NAVY designed to carry MISSILES ONLY. 4 sidewinders and 4 sparrows. And NO gun. Only through trial and error did the F-4 "morph" into carrying a gun and eventually iron bombs and eventually guided bombs and eventually a recce bird and finally a wild weasel. The F-14 was also built as a high altitude long range missile toting fleet defense fighter with NO intentions of ever dropping bombs, and it could track and scan 24 different targets and shoot 6 of them simultaneously with the Phoenix, something the F-15 couldn't do with its sparrows, and it too could look down into the ground with its Awg-9 pulse doppler radar. Oh and the F-14 was developed (1970) BEFORE the F-15 (1972). And and sorry Mr. but having two persons in the cockpit IS BETTER than one. dividing attention and sharing the work load is FAR more efficient and having 4 eyes looking for traffic and targets if safer than 2. That is why only Two seat F-15s are and will be produced from here on out.

    Sad to see the San Pedro Waterfront Red Cars no longer in operation. Remember taking it while killing time waiting for my 1st ever Mexican Cruise many years ago. Honest that was the highlight of the whole trip! Not the cruise! Sad it doesn't look like it will come back. Didn't the tracks & overhead wires also got removed? I've another cruise planned for February next year. Honest if it wasn't a themed cruise I wouldn't[ bother. Especially with this Red Car system no more. What a waste of money creating or reviving something only to remove it a few years later.

    Uh, the F/A-18 and F-16 did and do have TWS radar modes. Maybe he's specifically talking about the F-16A? The APG-66 on the A wasn't capable of this, but when the F-16C came around, it was upgraded to the APG-68 which features TWS and could track up to 10 different contacts. Even the block 30s which have been on the block for over 3 decades now had this capability. And on the topic of the hornet, I'm almost positive the original F/A-18A's had TWS capability. Of course I respect Dan here, and I thank him for his service but some of the things he claims are slightly misleading or at the very least, biased lol. Which is perfectly fine. If I was an eagle jockey, you bet your ass I'd say it's the best jet out there...and in many respects, it's definitely one of them. The F-14, F-15, F-16, and F/A-18 are all extremely capable fighters and there all good at what they do best. Even the Navy guys flying the old F-14As with TF-30s scored numerous simulated kills against F-15 drivers during DACT. Everyone knows the famous photo of the F-14's gun crosshair planted firmly on the canopy of an F-15. A photo which almost caused Japan to cancel an order of F-15s apparently lol.

    rather strange to hear him call the rio or wso a distraction As if you can only do one thing and not take in the extra info you get.. the extra SA. Tomcat crews when properly in tune with one another.. the RIO simply alleviated workload so the pilot can focus more on the flying and fighting.. And while dogfighting, there's a second pair of eyes to keep track of more then one enemy... Nobody can thus sneak up on yer 6 because pilot is to focussed on enemy up front.. Just sounds very very strange to hear that comment bout backseater being "overhead" or "distracting"

    • @ILSRWY4
      @ILSRWY4 Год назад

      He's wrong (about a lot of things) Having a RIO or WSO has been proven to be more efficient and SAFER than having just one pilot. That is why every F-15 built now and in the future is two seat. Also he said F-4 was built as a multi roll aircraft. No. It wasn't built as a multi roll aircraft, it was built as a high altitude missile toting fleet defense fighter for the NAVY designed to carry MISSILES ONLY. 4 sidewinders and 4 sparrows And NO gun. Only through trial and error did the F-4 "morph" into carrying a gun and eventually iron bombs and eventually guided bombs.

    Still can't believe we retired the F14, the political dweebs need to burn some money, but the F22 being single seat, the pilot is easily overwhelmed in a hostile environment. The decision makers that retired the A6E with a F18. We took 2 F18s on a 1hr low level at 200 ft. They couldn't keep up, they had to go to burners to keep up. The A6E was 420 indicted with 18 MK 82s. The F18s had to go above 10k to conserve fuel. We competed the mission with F18 flying a Mig Cap over us. We flew many flights at China Lake. If we had a good INS we could loft the bombs from a mtn ridge away without being seen by the AA systems around China Lake, they thought we did complete the mission until the MK 82 started to rain on target. The F14 and the A6E(real IFR bombers) was better than what we have now,.any single seat fight going against a two seat fighter will lose most of the time. From the Man Moscow fears the most!!

    I joined Air Force in October of 1972 my second permanent assignment was Udorn Air Base Thailand. I arrived in middle of June 1974. The Triple Nickel Squadron was based at Adorn at that time. In fact I believe that's the base that the general flew out of, at least that's what I was told when I was there. It was not unusual for me to see or even pass by a particular F-4D. It had the tail no. 555 and six red stars painted on the varyramps in front of the air intakes of the engines and still had Capt. Steve Richie's name painted under the Pilot's canopy. I only got to work on that aircraft one time that was an April of 75 if I remember correctly we were told that it was headed back to the States to be put in the Air Force Museum at Dayton. I did a few minor repairs on it and then I don't remember ever seeing it again. I have tried a couple times to find out what happened to it but have never been successful there is no mention being at Dayton nor any photographs of it there that I can find. The only photo of an F4 that I can find that has an any stars painted on it comes from the Boneyard. I believe it may be a D model but I'm not sure. The photo only shows a little bit of the fuselage and the lower half the left very ramp. But that ramp has four stars painted on it. I'm aware of no other Air Force F 4D that should have four stars painted on it. And if I understand correctly the first star have any painted at that time on an aircraft would have started in the upper left-hand corner of the very ramp not the lower right hand corner. So in my mind that almost has to be General Richie's D model. I do not know when that photo was taken and if that aircraft is still there. If it is the same aircraft I and sincerely hope it. I hope it will finally end up where it belongs. In Dayton.
